Feb Mix for One A Day by DJ CRANE
DJ Crane; the woman, the accent, the legend. We were floored by her dance-worthy debut mix last month, so much so that we’ve brought her back for round two, which is as forward-thinking and its predecessor. If you missed Sarah’s first foray into One A Day, never fear, you can check it out here. Like us, she’s been suitably inspired by the Young Turks invasion over the past month, and this is reflected in the tracklisting, which features, among others, that banger by Julio Bashmore. Now that she’s carving out her own niche, Crane’s got her own Soundcloud where she’ll be posting future mixes that we share with you and other goodies, so you’d be wise to follow that shit pronto. Other than that, plug in and pump it up for the best Monday of your year so far.
Here’s some extra detail from Sarah on her mood going into this mix:
I’ve been lucky enough to catch a tonne of amazing live shows in the last month… SBTRKT, Oneman, Andrew Weatherall, Koze plus a bunch of other artists who were out here for Laneway and Sydney Festival. It left me feeling very inspired to make a new mix a-sap. That and I found a shitload of cool new tunes on the internet. Overall this mix has mostly new(ish) tracks with loads of bass and house and garage beats. It’s still kinda evil too.
About the songs… I’m totally in love with the Submerse track ‘Hold It Down’ at the moment. It has this really cool garage beat with a wicked vocal. I was hearing it all over the place and it took me ages to work out what it was – then I Shazam-ed the sucker and here it is! The Buraka Som Sistema Hot Chip remix is another wicked tune with a filthy bass line. I’ve seen BSS a few times now and they never fail to get everyone jumping about. I don’t know – it’s hard to single out particular tunes as they’re all great. I hope y’all dig.
