Felix Lloyd

Felix Lloyd’s ‘Summer Space Camp’ by One A Day

22 year old Felix Lloyd first caught our attention with his FBi Midday Mix, which incorporated a whole swag of old soul samples and updates on rap joints we love. As such, he’s a perfect fir for our One A Day crate-digging mantra, and we couldn’t wait to get him on board for a hungover Sunday mixtape. Summer Space Camp is a gorgeous mix from the World Bar resident DJ and deckhead du jour for everyone from the Big Day Out to Adult Disco, Goodgod and even the odd art gallery. He’s only been playing live for two years, but Lloyd’s certainly got the goods. Take this for a spin and we’re sure you’ll agree.

Here’s some extra detail from Felix on his three best cuts from the smooth mix you’re listening to right now

Com Truise – ‘Space Dust’
Com Truise can not set a foot wrong – all his tracks are HUGE, super slow and ooze with space age bass, bonus level synth stabs, keening psychedelia and 1980s drenched drum sounds. This is the track I’d listen to if I were to ever drive a 1989 Ferrari Testarossa in to the sunset (fingers crossed).

The Streets – ‘Stay Positive’
I could write an essay on why Original Pirate Material (the album this is off) is one of my most listened to albums of all time. Basically in 2002 (when I was still a kid), this album transitioned my musical taste from hip hop to dance through it’s creative use of UK garage, piano house, drum and bass and electronica. This song is one of many jams that I still regularly listen to off the album. It’s gloriously dark, sounds like it was recorded on a tape deck and reminds me of getting a bus to house parties in high school.

Bill Withers – ‘Lovely Day’
I recently re-discovered this 1977 gem when I found it in a discount record bin in the Czech Republic. Mr. Withers is one of my favourite soul musicians and has an extraordinary voice that I would literally kill for. This song brings such a positive vibe to the table – it’s impossible to frown when listening. It’s also cool to take peoples attention off the crappy version that Twista butchered in ’04.
